Message from our Interim Director
Welcome to the Bakersfield Blend Chorus website.
Our singing style is not your typical soprano, alto, tenor, bass, or chorus. We consist of all women singers who sing in acapella Barbershop harmony. What’s Barbershop you say? Barbershop is a cappella vocal harmony produced by four voice parts: tenor, lead, baritone, and bass. This singing style produces an overtone that is made by frequencies among the four voice parts. It sounds complicated, but it is actually very pleasant, and fun to sing.
A typical rehearsal night for us starts with a combination of physical and vocal warm ups. We then review songs in our repertoire, followed by a quick break to do announcements. The rest of the night is spent on working on new music, and perfecting our vocal harmonies.
Enhancing the knowledge of the art of Barbershop through education, performance, and competition is a core part of our mission. However, due to the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19, we had to cancel our competitions, performances, and other community activities. Although we were forced to go to zoom rehearsals, we kept our music alive. Our group consists of women from diverse backgrounds and together we used our creativity to raise each other’s spirits and build each other up through this tough time. We are now slowly and safely going back to in-person rehearsals.
Browse through these pages and you will see the diversity of our group that makes Bakersfield Blend Chorus so special.
I am so proud and honored to be part of such a great group of ladies.
